Note:
Ransomed by two Jewish men from London's Old Bailey prison, a Jewish orphan and pickpocket named Molly is transported to the colonies to work as the indentured servant of a Jewish family. Although she is intent upon escaping and returning to the only life she has ever known, she is treated kindly and eventually has a change of heart. Historical details such as Jewish life in New York in the mid-1700's, the status of indentured servants, and the treatment of black slaves are skillfully woven into a fascinating plot. Much of the dialogue is written in "Flash," a dialect used by thieves, and while it requires frequent reference to the glossary, it adds a great deal of flavor and authenticity.
