Note:
A teenager is dragged to Israel by a father from whom she is estranged to meet a family she didn't know existed and who didn't know she existed, either. Learning, first, that "moshav" doesn't mean "mall," Amy is reluctantly drawn into a circle of teenagers that include a cousin whom she doesn't like. In fact, Amy doesn't like anything or anyone, except her new-found grandmother. Over the course of the summer, all of that changes and a teenage kvetch eventually becomes a mensch. The changes happen too quickly to be completely believable but Amy's transformation from a self-centered and truculent girl to a loving and caring young woman are heartening. Life in modern Israel is presented positively, with emphasis on love of country, responsibility, and Israeli determination.
