Note:
An appealing combination of text and full-color illustrations tells the story of the Steins, who adopt a baby girl from Vietnam. The feelings of the parents and the two young brothers, four-year-old Gabe and almost eight-year-old Jacob, are captured in joyous, rather stylized illustrations. When she flies to Vietnam, Mrs. Stein takes toys for the children in the orphanage, which members of the synagogue have donated, as well as tiny candlesticks and candles so she and Rebecca can celebrate their first Shabbat together. Once they are home, we see the steps the family takes to make the baby, Le Tai Hong, Jewish, naming her Rebecca Rose in English and Rivka in Hebrew, and taking her to the mikveh when she is a year old. The boys comment that she is now Vietnamese, Jewish, and American!
