Jewish Values: Why Noah Chose the Dove

Publication Year:
1999
Number of Pages:
29 p.
Note:
As the animals vie to be taken with Noah on the ark, each one brags about its strength, its size, its cleverness, and so on. Only the dove does not compete, telling Noah that it doesn't think it is any wiser or better than any of the others. For its modesty, Noah chooses the dove to fly from the Ark and bring back news of the world. Singer ends the story with the words: "The dove lives happily without fighting. It is a bird of peace." Carle's illustrations present an array of animals with splashes of color, sometimes spreading across two pages. They are a fitting complement to this classic story.
