Note:
A charming but idealized story of interfaith friendship in medieval Cordoba, Spain. A Jewish boy, a Moslem boy, and a Christian boy are friends, making mischief around the Great Mosque until they are caught and punished. As men, they renew their friendship to collaborate on pursuading the Catholic king to save the mosque instead of tearing it down. Fowles' illustrations are lovely, almost too lovely to convey the monumental stone grandeur of La Mezquita, which still stands, a Roman Catholic cathedral placed within its vast interior. Although it is historically dubious, the story is told and illustrated with verve and good will.
