Note:
Two of the great names in American children's literature collaborated on this powerful story about intolerance, one of the first on the subject to be written for American children. Originally published in 1944, this new edition has a foreword by Eleanor Estes' daughter, telling how it came to be written. There are no Jews in the story; a Polish child who is scorned and bullied by her classmates represents all nationalities. Barbara Cohen's Molly's Pilgrim bears a striking resemblance to The Hundred Dresses and both are worth reading and teaching.
