Full page color photographs of the Shrine of the Book, an Israeli home, the Judean Desert, and artifacts associated with the Judean Desert sect face each page of text in this engaging book about the Scrolls told as a story. A fictional eleven year old named Daniel is assigned by his teacher to write a report about the Scrolls so he begins as the Shrine of the Book. He gets help from a guard, a librarian, and an archaeologist as his quest takes him (with family) to Qumran. Fashioned as a mystery with much information woven into the story, this is a welcome supplement, for slightly younger children, to Ilene Cooper's The Dead Sea Scrolls (Morrow, 1997).
