The story of the Exodus is retold in narrative form that pales in comparison to the splendor of the accompanying illustrations. Large and spread lavishly throughout the book, they provide the drama that the text lacks and resemble the work of the Victorian Classicist, Sir Laurence Alma Tadema. Like much of Alma Tadema's art, their inspiration comes from Egyptian motifs and themes. Strangely enough, a central Passover theme - unleavened bread - is left out of the narrative. While not a first choice for Passover reading, the illustrations are outstanding. Best suited for elementary and middle school, not primary, children.
