Note:
Of all his jobs on the Israeli kibbutz, Chicken Man loves working in the hen house the most. He makes it look so pleasant that others envy him and so a job transfer takes place. In each job, no matter how arduous, Chicken Man always makes the best of it, although he misses his chickens and they miss him. Eventually, when it is clear that no one knows chickens like he does, he is transferred back and contentment is restored. There is so much in this story - a sharp look at kibbutz life, appealing and distinctive characters, superb illustrations, and a plot that develops its underlying theme - that it's possible to overlook the strong values it imparts. A favorite with primary grade children and splendid for reading aloud.
