Note:
The theme of this story is the confiscation and/or destruction of Jewish religious objects during the Holocaust. The author tells how many Torah scrolls, which the Nazis stored in Prague, were rehabilitated and destributed to synagogues around the world as memorials to the Holocaust. The focus is on a 300 year old Torah from Kosava Hors, a Czech village. Although told with reverence and filled with information about how Torahs are written and cared for, a story featuring a talking Torah to which human characteristics are ascribed reads rather awkwardly.
