Note:
Le Chambon sur Lignon is a village in southeastern France that saved about 5,000 Jews during the Holocaust. Its residents were Protestants, with a history of religious persecution and Huguenot resistance in Catholic France. It is partly for that reason that Pastor Trocme was able to inspire them to the non-violent resistance that he espoused. Neither the villager's motivation nor Trocme's is adequately explained in this biography, another in Rosen's acceptable but not outstanding Holocaust Biography series.
