Note:
Factual and objective, this short book for report writers in grades 3 - 6 covers Israel's geography, climate, wildlife, history, government, peoples, and daily life in a well-organized and accessible manner. Clearly drawn maps and text boxes plus photographs and other illustrations add visual interest and additional information. Appended material includes pictures of the Israeli flag and coat of arms, a timeline, glossary, brief bibliography, addresses and websites, and an index. The Israeli-Palestinian dispute is discussed dispassionately although the author draws a direct relationship between Ariel Sharon's visit to the Temple Mount and the second intifada. The term "BC" is used as well as "Jesus Christ." Notwithstanding these flaws, this is one of the more acceptable recent books about Israel. It is part of the Countries and Cultures Series and is useful for student research.
